Hey guys! Welcome to Chit Chat, a new feature on the blog. I used to do the Monthly Edition where I would share books, events in life, movies, photos, things I love etc but I always felt pressured when drafting those posts to have them up in time so Chit Chat is its replacement. It will be a semi-regular post where I get to share what’s going on in life, on the blog, what I’m obsessed with currently and I figure it’s the perfect way to launch back into blogging so I hope it’ll be something you’ll enjoy reading too! If there’s a certain area of my life that I’m feeling particularly passionate about like fitness, I can expand on it in a separate future post!
It’s getting busy at work right now. I work in an Irish history museum and 2016 is the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 Rising, an event which turned the tide of opinion towards the subject of Irish independence and was one of the first major steps towards us becoming an independent Republic. So we have a lot of events and it should be an amazing and emotional time for the country although right now I have 1916 fatigue because we’ve been preparing for it for so long!
Even though it’s January and the whole world seems to be on a health kick, I’m happy that for once I’m not one of them, because my January 1st was back in October LOL! After a wonderful holiday in Lanzarote, I came back feeling great about everything except how I looked and more importantly how I felt and there’s nothing like the fear of a bikini to bring that home so I recommitted to my healthy eating with Weight Watchers’ amazing new programme Smart Points and I absolutely love it! I have almost 20lbs gone and better still, all sugar cravings are gone and I just feel so much better and it’s now a way of life, I’ve completely switched over so am confident that the next bikini holiday will be a much happier experience!
Fitness wise, it’s a more frustrating tale. I’m suffering from a condition called Plantar Fasciitis in my left heel which has severely limited my ability to exercise. I can no longer pull on a pair of trainers and head out for a walk without a second thought because the pain can be too much, not to mention my audio-book listening has diminished drastically! So last week I turned to Yoga and started 30 days of Yoga with Adriene! I’m on day 8 and really loving it, I already feel an improvement in my flexibility and some postures are much more comfortable than they were on day one. My overall sense of well-being is also improved. If you have been thinking of getting into Yoga then definitely head over to her YouTube channel. If you aren’t ready to commit to a programme, there are also several beginner videos that you can pick and choose from plus Adriene is an amazing teacher and very encouraging!
One thing has completely taken over my life (hence why my return to blogging has taken an extra two weeks) is that I started binge-watching Revenge! Have you seen it? I watched the first series five years ago when it first premiered but I wasn’t too invested in the story and other shows interested me more but this Christmas, I spotted that all four seasons had been added to Netflix and I couldn’t resist giving it another go. I’m already halfway through season 3 and cannot get enough. I watched about seven episodes yesterday #revengezombie and I just can’t get enough of the audacious plots and hi-jinks. Plus I love Emily VanKamp’s ability to make Emily Thorne such a sympathetic character despite all the horrible things she does, I can’t help but root for her! Victoria Grayson and Nolan Ross are two other faves despite me loathing them first watch round.
Because of the above obsession, my reading has taken a backseat (way to be a successful book blogger, eh Dani?). I started The Story Spinner as my New Year read and I’m about 100 pages into it…It is amazing but #revengezombie has taken over but I’m determined to get back to it. My next read (if I ever finish the first, good grief!) will be BUILT by Jay Crownover. I loved the first three books of Marked Men and want to finish that series soon as BUILT is set in the “same ‘verse”. I want to spend more time reading backlist books and finishing series this year and not feel that guilt if I choose a book of my own rather than an ARC. I do want to get through the backlog of books and fulfil my commitments but not at the risk of another epic reading slump like I experienced in 2015.
What Danielle Did Next turns 3 next month so obviously the blog has to become a priority again especially as I have missed chatting with you guys and feeling connected to the community. I also want this blog to grow and reach its full potential. Our junior year wasn’t much to write home about so hopefully our senior year will be much more successful!
I am also excited to announce that I’m joining my amazing friend Tonya as a guest blogger on her site
Tonya has been a wonderful friend, that I met through blogging but she’s become so much more than an “internet friend”. We can legit talk about anything with no judgement and she is definitely the person I’d call to hide the bodies… 😉 Look out for my first review over there soon and don’t forget to subscribe and follow Tonya if you don’t already.
I look forward to connecting with you all both here and on other social media. You can follow me on Twitter here and also on Instagram here where I share all aspects of my life both fitness, books, food, friends and of course my dogs.
I hope you managed to stay awake during my ramble.
Let’s chit chat again soon!
