The Monthly Round Up | The July Edition

August 12, 2014 weekly memes 17

I am hopelessly behindย I know! I didn’t do a June edition – well…because not a lot happened LOL but plenty happened in July so let’s pretend it’s not the middle of August and I’m NOT ridiculously late with this post! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Stacking the shelvesย andย The Sunday Post
are memes where we share our news from the month and our book haul.

This month in life and on the blog

I went to my first big author event! I am always so envious of those in the US and UK who have big events like BEA and YALC to enjoy whereas if we are lucky enough to get a big author to come to Ireland the signings are always scheduled for like 6PM on a wednesday in Dublin and the last trains and buses leave at 6.30 so…but finally some lovely people organised the Dublin Author Signing and got tons of fab Romance writers to visit and it was so much fun! I got to meet favourites such as Cora Carmack (I may have done an “impression” of an Irish jig that I am still embarrassed about!), Abbi Glines (eeep!) and Jay Crownover who I was totally shaking because I adore the Marked Men series! I also got a ton of fab swag and signed books!

I also got to meet TRISH!!! Trish from Between My Lines also made the trip and made my day! We went for lunch beforehand and had a great time chatting books, blogging and everything in between and had a lovely time visiting all the authors together and being each other’s photographer. Hopefully we’ll get to catch up again soon! xx

It was also wonderful to meet the lovely Carmel Harrington! I’m a big fan of her work and it was extra special because a few days beforehand I found out that my review of her debut got featured in her new book “The Life You Left”! So chuffed!

Later that day I got to hang out with my bestie Tonia and we went for my fave Persian cuisine for dinner and she found me MY Coke bottle! Finally! Yes finding my name on a Coke bottle is a highlight! Don’t judge me!

I also got to go to see MACKLEMORE with my bestie Niamh the next day! Boy can those guys put on a show, it was really special to be there because it was their biggest concert ever and they even wrote a song especially for the occasion ๐Ÿ™‚

I got to spend time with my nephew Isaiah and play football in the park (I’m awesome btw) and then baby Hope came home for a visit! She was teething mad and was at that age of making strange so I wasn’t her favourite person this time around *sniff* but I did manage to raise a couple of smiles!

Ella and Gracie weren’t able to take the humidity so I got them shaved for the Summer. The results are hilarious but they are so much happier and at least when their fur grows back it’ll be more manageable!

Rounded off July by taking advantage of the nice weather and visiting the beach and having drinks with friends. It was perfect!

Haha, I’m laughing in memory of the swinging elbows jig! But at least you didn’t tell Cara a vomit story like I did! What a pair :O
Some fab books. I adored Going Back. And *boo* I got turned down for Only Ever Yours but it’s at the very top of my to buy list! It sounds great and I love the cover!
    Happy reading!

  2. Wendy @ Book Scents

So awesome you got to meet and hang out with Trish!! And Cora is just the nicest!! I love her. Macklemore sounds like fun!! Always wanted to go to one of his concerts. Also — I adored since you’ve been gone. Like I stayed up til 4 am reading it. I hope you love iit too!

  3. Chrissi Reads

Lovely wrap up! I’m glad that you got to go to an event! It’s a shame that there isn’t more around for you. I hope you enjoy the books you received!

  4. Jeann @ Happy Indulgence

I really want to read Big Little Lies by Lianne Moriarty, I’ve heard so much about the book lately! WOW you meant Cora, sounds like you really enjoyed your author event, and yay for being awesome at football (I’m terrible btw). I just LOVE that special edition of Fangirl, but can’t justify having 3 editions! I hope you enjoy Dorothy Must Die.

  5. Renu

Eeee, so cool that your review got quoted and that you got to meet Trish! ๐Ÿ˜€ Sounds like a fun month, so jealous that you went to see Mackemore! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Also, your dogs are so cute!

  6. Lucy @ Queen of Contemporary

Ella and Gracie look so cute! The event sounds amazing, and they’re really exciting, aren’t they? Super jealous you got to meet Cora Carmack!

Great post, Danielle! Seems like you had a lovely July!

  7. Rachel

Wow! What an awesome event and time in Dublin! I love Jay Crownover too, so I’m totally jealous. I love seeing bands live and it sounds like your concert was amazing as well.

Your dogs are so cute shaved and I’ve thought of doing that to my cat because she’s SO fluffy and we live in Southern California, but I think it would demoralize and scar her for life! Lol! She just lazes around and sleeps all day until it cools off.

Your Fangirl cover is pink, but mine is a light mint green. I’ll get to it sometime. Hope we both enjoy it! I “read” (listened to the audio) Attachments by Rainbow Rowell and it was really cute. Enjoy all your books, Danielle! It looks like you’ve had a great month! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Cait @ Notebook Sisters

I have such a nice copy of Dorothy Must Die that I won and I STILL haven’t read it yet! Oh gosh, what’s wrong with me?! ๐Ÿ˜› I love retelling so I’m definitely getting on to that asap. I’m seeing Red Queen everywhere this weekend and I’m already snooping it out on Gooreads. That cover is downright epic. I hope you like Fangirl! I LOVE that book. Cath is the best and I related to her a lot, lol, especially the introverted side. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The baby is so pretty !!! And the dogs are indeed hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‰ Enjoy your big book haul and have a great week ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Sounds like you had a fun few months! I love your pics and what great books you ended up with! I’ve been looking for a coke bottle with my name and so far no luck but I’d be pretty excited too! I love the difference between your dogs shaved and unshaved! I’m glad they’re enjoying being a bit cooler. I had a Sheltie (very very furry. Originally from Scotland NOT Southern US) and he was so miserable I had him shaved one summer. He was so embarrassed that he refused to come out of his kennel and then when he did stayed up against the walls. I felt so sorry for him I never did it again! I’m glad yours aren’t quite as vain! Have a great week!
