Discuss with Danielle: Huggable Books

November 28, 2013 Discuss With Danielle 14

About two years ago I was coveting a Kindle, after months of scoffing that it would never replace “real” books and I wouldn’t succumb to another trend, threats that it was “Me or the Books” began to sway my mind as my towering piles slowly took over any storage space and it was demanded that many of them would be boxed up and sent into the wilds (also known as the local charity shop). Since then I have *tried* to limit my physical copies to only ones I simply HAVE TO HAVE and more important the ones that are deemed (by me) to be…

Yes this is a thing- hear me out!

Huggable books are those that just overwhelm you, that touch your heart and that you love so much that after reading you simply have.to.HUG.them.tennants-gonna-hug-you

I’ve been fortunate this year to have met a few of these books and while I admit to wincing when I hear the sound of my beloved book pop through the letter box and snatched up before I have a chance to hide it “What? What book? Oh…THAT book, yeaaaaa I didn’t buy it” *shakes head so hard brain rattles* “…that was sent by a publisher” *snatches book and runs like the wind* I am so glad the pretty is now on my shelf to look upon lovingly, pet it and occasionally twirl around the room hugging it.

Here’s a couple of books that I read this year that simply had to be bought and HUGGED!

GOLDEN! How much do I love you? This was a definite “Me” book. I connected with Parker instantly and her yearning to break free and take risks was something I really understand. I loved the mystery, the romance, the friendship. It was such an “ALL THE FEELS” book and I treasure my copy of it. Read my review of GOLDEN!

You can include PUSHING THE LIMITS in this but DARE YOU TO really tugged at my heartstrings. I adored Beth and sympathised with her struggles. I loved every minute of this book and it legit made me burst into happy sobbing with the last lines. I LOVE Katie McGarry. Her books are definitely huggable! Read my reviews of PUSHING THE LIMITS and DARE YOU TO

Aww man! This book! TSWSYL…THE FEELS!! This was just perfection for me TBH, I have never rooted for a character as much as Elise and it was just wonderful! That is all! Read my review of THIS SONG WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE.

TEMPTATION and its sequel BELONGING were just the sweetest, most wonderful love story. I feel for Rose and Noah so damn hard, I loved the clashing of two cultures and love struggling to find a way past the hardships. I loved Karen’s writing and am so happy I read these books! Read my review of TEMPTATION and BELONGING

If you’re a reader of this blog you know that this series did a number on me. HOPELESS wowed me but LOSING HOPE ripped me to pieces and put me back together. It it not often I am torn down by a book but this was it! I was devestated, so much so that I broke down at the dinner table in front of my mom and the poor Spanish student who was staying with us and cried all evening, my mom called my sister IN LONDON and I cried on FaceTime to her too. It was just one of the most emotional experiences of my reading life! and to top it off I woke up the next morning to hundreds of comments on my review because Colleen Hoover was awesome enough to feature it on her blog. This book is picked up and hugged but I legit cannot open it yet! Read my reviews of HOPELESS and LOSING HOPE

SANCTUM was amazing! It took me a MONTH to read it simply because it was so good I didn’t want it to end! It inspired this tweet…

The charcters and the romance were two highlights but I cannot fault it! I loved it that much! Read my review of SANCTUM

Do you have any books that you deem huggable?? Comment below so we can be weirdos together!!

Oh my goodness, I do this! I’m so glad I’m not alone in hugging books. I just bought a hard copy of Crash Into You because I looved it so and the cover is just amazing, I have to have it. I just finished Sentinel and that was totally a hugging book too. ALL THE FEELS.

  2. Jeann @ Happy Indulgence

HAHA I get that guilt as well whenever a new package that looks suspiciously like a book pops up on my doorstep lol! Thanks for all of your huggable books, I thought Losing Hope was freaking amazing!

  3. Lucy @ Queen of Contemporary

You used a Tangled GIF! You’re officially the awesomest person EVER (apart from me, of course :P). Fangirl is definitely a huggable book. I bought the hardback recently because I originally read it as an eARC and I CANNOT STOP STROKING IT. If I could live in a book, I would live in Fangirl. No doubt about it. I LOVE it to pieces!

    Love this post, Danielle! 😀

“Shakes head so hard your brain rattles”…hahaha, I can just imagine this scene. I love so many of the ones you mention especially Losing Hope and Sanctum. And you’ve reminded me I need to pick up This Song Will Save Your Life still. I don’t really mind if books are physical or ebooks as the hugging is in my head anyway! And right now I’m squeezing the hell out of Pushing the Limits 🙂

I tend to hug the books before I read them. Weird, I know.

I agree with you about Sanctum AND FRACTURED. I hugged Fractured LOL

  6. Cayce

I’m a book hugger, too. And I tend to hug my Kindle as well 🙂 I huggled the heck out of
Slammed (Hopeless was good, too, but I’m a Lake&Will fan though and through). I also gave a super big hug to Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.

    <3 the GIFs!

I AM SO HAPPY TO SEE ANOTHER SANCTUM LOVER! Gosh this book is just unbelievably amazing and does not get enough attention. Anyway back to the topic at hand, I totally understand you. I try to limit my physical copies so I only buy a book if I know I love it or there is a good chance I am going to love it. I’ve read some huggable books – The Burning Sky, Tiger Lily, Rose Under Fire – to name a few! These tend to be books I might reread too!

    Great post!

Oh I definitely hug books! Golden and Losing Hope were two on your list that I have hugged. I also hugged the shit out of The Fault in Our Stars. Every time I go into my office and see that book on the shelf I adoringly pet the cover. The Bronze Horseman trilogy is another series of books that I hugged a lot.

  9. Jess Hearts Books

I love this post so much! I physically hug books I love on an inexplanable level too. The last book I hugged was Attachments which is actually my book of the month for November!
